Important Note about Driving to IONS: You can only safely access the road to IONS from Hwy 101 South, not 101 North. That means if you are traveling north to get to IONS (from San Francisco, Oakland or San Rafael, for example), you have to drive up past IONS and then turn around and head back down south on 101 to get to the road to IONS. (Once you are going south on 101, there are two options for exiting the freeway to get to IONS.) See driving directions below.

DRIVING Directions COMING north
- From San francisco, san rafael & the east bay:

1. Take Highway 101 North through Novato.
2. Continue north on 101 until the Petaluma Blvd South exit.
   — This is taking you up a little north of IONS.
3. Exit at Petaluma Blvd. South and follow the signs to 101 South, toward San Francisco.
   — With this step, you're turning around to head back south on 101.
4. Just past Kastania Rd., just south of Petaluma at the bottom of a hill, there will be a small road on your right with a small street sign saying "San Antonio Rd." You can turn off from the highway onto this road - use the shoulder to slow down as you approach the turn.
   — This is your first option for exiting; if you miss it, there will be another.
5. If you exit at this first option, you're making a right turn off of the freeway onto San Antonio Rd. Stay on San Antonio Road, DO NOT turn before the bridge -- cross the bridge and soon you will come to the entrance gate for IONS on your right. Turn into the gate and you'll be on Burdell Rd. Follow Burdell and the signs for getting up to the IONS campus. The last part of the drive includes an ascent up a steep hill. At the top of the hill, the Retreat Center is to the right, and the Administrative and Research offices are to the left.

IF YOU MISS THE FIRST SAN ANTONIO EXIT, here's option #2:

• Not to worry, there is another exit about a quarter of a mile south down 101
  — this exit also says "San Antonio Rd."
• Exit this San Antonio Rd. exit and you'll soon be going north again, on San Antonio Rd. Coming this way, the gate to IONS will be on your left. Turn into the gate and you'll be on Burdell Rd. Follow Burdell and the signs for getting up to the IONS campus.
• The last part of the drive includes an ascent up a steep hill. At the top of the hill, the Retreat Center is to the right, and the Administrative and Research offices are to the left.

DRIVING Directions COMING SOUTH
- From Sonoma County:

1. Take Highway 101 South.
2. Follow the directions above, starting with step #4.
   — People who are initially traveling north drive past IONS and turn around to go south on 101, so the final directions are the same no matter where you begin.
