Asia
Consciousness Festival Report
By Marilyn Mandala Schlitz
To explore the powers and potentials of consciousness,
a multidisciplinary team put together the first Asia
Consciousness Festival in June, 2009, in Hong Kong.
In a series of mini-conferences and events over the
course of a month, leading scientists, healers, artists,
spiritual teachers, and film makers provided different
perspectives on the nature, experience, and study of
consciousness. Through lectures, workshops, screenings,
and art exhibitions, participants from throughout the
world were able to experience firsthand the various
dimensions of consciousness and the many ways that our
thoughts and beliefs influence our experience of the
world.
The "About Consciousness Conference," for example,
provided three days of workshops that inspired attendees
to gain insights into their own minds and bodies. Speakers
including Stuart Hameroff, myself, and Marceo Emoto
offered a blend of healing and science as well as inner
and outer approaches to exploring human experience.
In a one-day conference called Social Dimensions
of Consciousness, anthropologists, philosophers,
psychologists, and linguists considered the ways in
which the contents of consciousness are social constructs—social
and cultural analyses aimed to establish universal principles
of human thought, behavior, and experience. Speakers
included Imants Baruss, Etzel Cardeρa, Joan Chiao, Charles
Whitehead, and a dozen others. The topics ranged from
the social brain and social self—through art,
creativity, and robotics—to discussions on the
relationship between consciousness and "consensus reality."

The
Great Integral Awakening: Pioneering a New Spiritual
Path
A free online teleseminar
series sponsored by Integralenlightenment.com
and Integral Life began on June 20 and will run
on consecutive Saturdays through September 26.
The lineup of 14 presenters includes Ken Wilber,
Don Beck, Diane Hamilton, Andrew Cohen, and IONS'
president Marilyn Mandala Schlitz. To find out
specific times and guests, go to the website
and sign in.
Marilyn
is also featured in another free
teleseminar entitled "Consciousness and Healing"
on July 27 at 5pm Pacific. It's part of the MaestroConference,
a new technology that allows both listeners and
presenters to engage with each other as if in
a live workshop. It's one of more than 60 free
trainings in the areas of health, personal growth,
business, spirituality, and societal change during
Maestro Month, which features such world-class
leaders as Deepak Chopra, Jack Canfield, Marianne
Williamson, and John Gray.

Shift
Magazine
The newest issue of Shift should be
arriving any day now if it hasn't already. For
those IONS members who either haven't yet received
it or had a chance to read it, you will soon discover
the news that the Institute will be suspending
publication of Shift, for a variety of
reasons. Like most nonprofits, we are facing financial
challenges that are causing us to tighten our
budgets. We are also acutely aware of the need
to lighten our footprint on this now-fragile planet,
and publishing a print magazine contributes its
share of impacts. Instead, we will be reconfiguring
iShift to include more information on
the noetic sciences, providing a twice-yearly
newsletter, and have begun the long-overdue process
of rebuilding our website, which will feature
plenty of fresh content on consciousness studies
and personal/collective transformation. We hope
you see the wisdom in these changes, and invite
your ideas and feedback. You will be able to read
PDF versions of the following feature articles
on the noetic.org
website very soon!
Consciousness and Healing
Evidence Adds Up to a Health Care Revolution
By Vesela Simic
As integrative medicine finds a place on the national
health care stage, science has acquired tools
to better measure the effectiveness of transformative
practices. A close look at three such studies
suggests a bright future for alternative and complementary
therapies.
Extended Human Capacities
The Power of Premonition
By Larry Dossey
"Many critics dismiss premonitions as New
Age mumbo jumbo," writes Dossey, "yet
elegant studies by respected consciousness researchers
compellingly suggest that we really can peer into
the future." And that's important, he believes,
because our survival may depend on cultivating
that ability.
Emerging Worldviews
Mythic Visions for Uncertain Times
By Michael Meade
When the world starts to feel unstable, people
tend to cling to the known and absolute. Renowned
mythologist-storyteller Michael Meade reminds
us that the threads of any new story will be woven
not by fear but by imagination and the ancient
wisdom that connects "the solid ground of
the earth and the unseen realm that sustains it."
Transformation
Evolving Consciousness
By Kaisa Puhakka
Beyond positions, beyond beliefs, lies a place
where the mind can truly open to the possibilities
of any given moment. Is such receptivity possible
in a world beset by polarity and conflict? It
is, says this Zen psychologist, and that potential
is available to anyone.
Frontiers of Research
The Noetic Sciences Change Model
Whether sudden or gradual, profound or mundane,
relatively minor or earthshaking, change happens.
And just as change is always happening in the
natural world in endless cycles of seasons, birth,
and death, it happens continuously in our human
experience.

Emerald Womeldorff
IONS has been a part of my life for nearly 30 years
and my wife and partner, Donna Zajonc, are grateful
to be Circle Members. I had the privilege of meeting
Willis Harman in Dayton, Ohio in 1980 and have been
impacted by the perspective of this leading edge organization
ever since. The IONS community's focus on enlarging
our understanding of the human experience from a spiritual
perspective no doubt influenced the shift-of-mind that
is the center of The
Power of TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic). This
book emerged out of my own personal and professional
experience of seeking to articulate and facilitate—and
live—the shift to a more resourceful world view.
In our executive coaching, speaking and leadership
development seminars, we emphasize that "self leadership"
is the foundation of effective public and/or organizational
leadership. TED*, which is at the heart of our work,
introduces an upgrade to the prevailing "personal operating
system" of humanity. This framework, which is particularly
related to IONS' focus on emerging worldviews, is our
contribution to the growing conversation in service
to facilitating conscious evolution in our times.

Deborah Breitbach,
Director of Donor Relations, at 707-779-8216.

| Partner
Opportunity |
The
Institute of Noetic Sciences has six office spaces for
rent at its beautiful hilltop Petaluma, California campus
that are available now. We are looking not only to rent
the office spaces, but rather to draw in a collaborative
partner who shares our values and purpose in some way
to transform consciousness and build a better world.
We are also looking for renter(s) who would bring their
programs to the campus and partner with us by holding
events at our retreat center.
These spaces are located all in one section of a building
with four other office spaces, three of which are rented
by Veriditas. Veriditas
is an organization that facilitates programs based on
walking a labyrinth. Veriditas has partnered with us
to build a labyrinth on the property, and hosts their
meetings and programs at our retreat center. It is this
kind of multi-faceted and like-minded collaboration
that we are looking for with whomever rents the available
spaces.
These spaces are in a triple-wide modular building
with breath-taking fabulous views. If you are interested
in looking at the space or talking further, please contact
me at ccoleman@noetic.org
or 707-779-8171.
