Expand
your mind, open your heart, and activate your full
potential.
Alchemical
divination is a process of structured intuitive inquiry
using light-fire yoga methods for a mildly expanded
state of consciousness. In this workshop we will work
in the spirit of the Roman deity Janus, god of doorways,
passages, and transitions, whose two faces look in a
balanced way into the past and the future.

Research |
Researchers
at the Institute of Noetic Sciences have just completed
a study on how engagement in a particular form of transformative
practice, Integral
Transformative Practice, affects people's health
and well-being over the course of a year. Over fifty
people participating in Integral Transformative Practice
groups across the country were included, agreeing to
complete questionnaires at multiple time points and
even having someone they trust report on their progress
(one way to reduce the inherent inaccuracy of self-reporting).
Final statistical analyses are underway, but preliminary
results indicate that people showed reduced symptoms
of ill health, improved psychological well-being, and
improved quality of life during the course of the year.
And the more that people engaged in their transformative
practices, the more their health improved. More practice
was also associated with such spiritual well-being outcomes
as self-transcendence, forgiveness, and finding meaning.
In this process, our researchers have optimized ways
to measure different aspects of the transformative process,
and as part of our long-standing collaboration with
California
Pacific Medical Center's Research Institute, we
are now engaged in a year-long study of 150 people that
is examining how spiritual engagement affects health
and well-being.
The
results of the first study are being written up for
publication in a scientific journal and will be presented
at the upcoming Integral Transformative Practice conference,
"The
Intention of the Universe," in Marin County, California,
June 13–14. IONS President Marilyn Schlitz and
Director of Research Cassandra Vieten will join Michael
Murphy, George Leonard, and others for a weekend of
learning and community.

In
appreciation of attending IONS Board and Donor weekends:
I
consider it a privilege to interact informally with
the knowledgeable, gifted, like-minded people whom IONS
attracts. The structure of these weekends facilitates
informed dialogue around the fascinating topics that
IONS research is uncovering and provides a well-tuned
balance between the experiential workshops that are
part of these events and group discussions about the
inner workings of the organization. The whole experience
not only expands my network of fellow travelers on this
road of transformation, it stimulates my thought processes
while contributing to my own evolving consciousness.
I'm proud to be on the donor list of such a trailblazing
organization.

"The
Love Study" on NPR
Stay tuned this month for an upcoming show on All
Things Considered featuring recent research,
affectionately called "The Love Study," carried out
by IONS. Scheduled to air on either May 11 or May
18, the NPR show is one of a five-part series on the
emerging science of spirituality. This segment asks
the question, Does intercessory prayer work? Science
shows that our thoughts can affect our own body, but
can our thoughts affect another person's body? Go
to NPR
for more program information-though it may not be
posted until a few days before the show. In the meantime,
check out the published article of the study, entitled
"Compassionate
Intention as a Therapeutic Intervention by Partners
of Cancer Patients." There was also a recent write-up
of the research on a
Huffington Post blog, which generated a range
of spirited responses.
The
Living Matrix
This
new documentary on next-generation energy-based
medicine, featuring IONS scientists Edgar Mitchell,
Marilyn Mandala Schlitz, and Dean Radin, among others,
sold out its world premier in London last March and
is coming to the United States. Its North American premier will take place May 18-19 in Larkspur, California. See
the trailer or go
here for a 50% discount on tickets. It will also
be one of four featured films at the IONS
international conference in June.
Joining
The Living Matrix at the conference will
be The
Wonder of It All, the soon-to-be-released
award-winning documentary featuring in-depth interviews
with seven of the astronauts-including IONS founder
Edgar Mitchell-who walked on the moon; Fierce
Light, a powerful documentary on spiritual
activism featuring Congressman John Lewis, Archbishop
Desmond Tutu, Alice Walker, Daryl Hannah, and Julia
Butterfly Hill, which won the Canadian National Film
Board's prestigious Most Popular Documentary Award;
and the never-before-seen The
Scole Experiment, chronicling the extraordinary
results of a five-year investigation into life after
death.
