Becoming Part of Our Work |
|
At
the Institute
of Noetic Sciences, consciousness
matters.
By
supporting our rigorous scientific
research and educational
programs on consciousness and human potential,
you are helping to midwife the emergence of a
more sustainable worldview by addressing a root
cause of our challenges: narrowly conditioned
consciousness. The survival and flourishing of
humanity requires a fundamental shift in attitudes
and beliefs that lead to more holistic and aware
choices and a worldview centered in interconnectedness.
As
a research and educational center that focuses
on consciousness—and as a gravitational attractor
for the emerging consciousness movement—we are
dedicated to bridging the rigors of science and
the deep wisdom of subjective experiences to serve
individual and collective transformation. In this
we inspire to nourish and support you in your
work and in your experience during this momentous
time in history.
Because
we are a nonprofit, we rely on your engagement
and financial support to keep our efforts going.
Our mutual work is of vital service to the world;
your collaboration makes all the difference! Thank
you for all you do!
Give
a gift today.

Dean
Radin, PhD, Senior Scientist at the Institute,
was recently named Coeditor-In-Chief of Explore:
The Journal of Science and Healing,
which addresses the scientific principles behind, and applications of, evidence-based healing practices from a wide variety of sources, including conventional, alternative, and cross-cultural medicine. It is an interdisciplinary journal that explores the healing arts, consciousness, spirituality, eco-environmental issues, and basic science as all these fields relate to health.
Dean's
first career as a concert violinist shifted into science
after he earned a Masters degree in electrical engineering
and a PhD in psychology from the University of Illinois,
Champaign-Urbana. For the next decade he worked on advanced
telecommunications R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories and
GTE Laboratories; since then he has been engaged in
consciousness research. Before joining the research
staff at IONS, Dean held appointments at Princeton University,
the University of Edinburgh, the University of Nevada,
and three Silicon Valley think-tanks, including SRI
International, where he worked on a classified program
investigating psychic phenomena for the U.S. government.
He is author or coauthor of over 200 technical and popular
articles, a dozen book chapters, and several books including
the bestselling The Conscious Universe (HarperOne,
1997) and Entangled Minds (Simon & Schuster,
2006). His technical articles have appeared in journals
ranging from Foundations of Physics to Psychological
Bulletin, Journal of Alternative and Complementary
Medicine, and Journal of Consciousness Studies.
He has been interviewed for television shows ranging
from Oprah and Larry King Live to
the BBC’s Horizon and PBS's Closer to Truth,
and he has presented over a hundred invited lectures
in venues including Harvard, Stanford and Princeton
universities and Google.

Consciousness
and Healing
In Search of Happiness
by Vesela Simic
There has been an unprecedented explosion of interest in the pursuit of happiness. What are scientists learning? Is the quest for happiness appropriate and useful in a time of global instability? What's missing from the discussion, and where is this quest taking us? Its pursuit is more—and less—complicated than we think.
Extended
Human Capacities
Twin Telepathy and the Illusion of Separation
by Diane H. Powell
Despite substantial evidence validating psychic phenomena,
the scientific community remains largely resistant. Enter the revolutionary phenomenon of telepathic communication between twins. Numerous cases have been accumulating since the late 1800s. If they can't be explained through synchronicity or genetics,
what other explanation could there be?
Emerging

The Adaptive Organization
by Carol Mase
The strains that most of us are feeling these days are also reflected within our institutions. In attempting to adapt, most still rely on traditional models of change that no longer work in a world where the old rules don't apply. Mase makes the case for a new model that bridges psychology, biology, and the principles of interdependence.
Transformation
A Quiet Revolution: An Interview with Adyashanti
by Steve Donoso
Spiritual teacher Adyashanti, who began his public teachings in 1996, shares his wisdom on the nature of awakening consciousness. "The most powerful impediments to awakening are our beliefs about it," he says. His recommended tools are self-honesty, meditation, and inquiry into primordial silence.

| Institute
of Noetic Sciences Research Programs |
Our
research currently encompasses three main program areas:
Emerging Worldviews and Transformation, Consciousness
and Healing, and Extended Human Capacities. Here is
a detailed overview of the first.
Emerging
Worldviews and Transformation
Never before in history have so many cultures, belief
systems, and new scientific discoveries emerged and
interacted so quickly. These projects study whether
a blend of ancient and contemporary wisdom may help
to generate transformative models for how to live life
in the 21st century.
The
Tranformation Project
For over a decade, we have been investigating how people experience transformations in consciousness. These are fundamental shifts in worldview and ways of being that result in such beneficial outcomes as increased quality of life, an orientation toward service, and a higher likelihood of experiencing compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, joy, and meaning.
Worldview
Literacy - Education and Consciousness
For this project we are researching and creating a youth curriculum on exploring and understanding different worldviews. Our goal is to work toward transforming the model of education in America by creating whole-person education, identifying barriers to inclusion of whole-person education, and developing strategies to overcome those barriers.
Meditation
Bibliography
The Physiological and Psychological Effects of Meditation project has been underway since 2000. This portion of the project is developing an online searchable bibliography for all known scientific studies on meditation.
At
Home Within
The Institute is collaborating with a leading provider of homeless services in Petaluma, California. Consciousness-oriented programs are now offered year-round in the shelter, and we continue to test the effects of participating in these programs on coping, stress, and well-being.
Film:
Survival of Bodily Death
Footage from leading scientists has been accumulating, but we need additional funding to complete the editing and format the film for publishing on the internet or on a DVD. We also want to create a learning guide to accompany the film.
Achuar
This project takes us deeply into the Achuar worldview of the Ecuadorian Amazon to better understand the process of dream sharing within this remote group. Through this project we seek to learn new ways of bridging Western rational and objective ways of knowing with indigenous intuitive and unitive ways of knowing.
"Noetic
Intervention" for Latina Teens
This study examined the effects of a specially developed intervention designed to encourage maternal infant bonding and communication in pregnant teenagers of Marin county, many of whom are highly stressed economically or by virtue of recently giving birth.
