Dinan /
As
we transition from spring into summer, we turn iShift's
focus from the quest for improvement towards relaxed
enjoyment. Too often in transformational circles, we
fixate on the next stage of growth, evolution or change,
rather than enjoyment of what already is. Ironically,
this may slow our growth and delay the changes we seek
to make in the world.
Summer
is a season in which enjoyment comes to the foreground
- vacations, adventure, nature, sports, time with friends,
and beautiful weather. Enjoyment fosters gratitude,
which in turn deepens our relationships and allows us
to hold life more lightly. It also helps dissolve resistance
to change, allowing us to move more fluidly. In that
spirit, we offer you opportunities for enjoyment this
month, from Internet videos to new books to tips for
savoring summer in a distinctly noetic way.
A
few other announcements:
1.
Psi Wars, our first foray
into the world of Internet movie-making, went through
a major upgrade this month (www.IsTheForceReal.com)
and has now been seen by 35,000 people. It stars a scientific
jedi called Oh Be One Kenobi who shares frontier psi
research related to global consciousness. As this is
our first experiment in a very different medium, we'd
love your honest feedback! (poll)
2.
The 2007 Shift Report is
continuing to find its way into the hands of opinion-makers
around the world, from congresspeople to CEOs. Become
a paradigm-shifter by purchasing
copies for friends and allies (only $10/copy).

Stephen
Dinan /
Today
we focus on enjoyment. I confess that the term has always
felt too lightweight for me. Weightier terms and more
serious experiences have always seemed so much more
crucial to accomplish the major shifts of our day. Enjoyment
has been a frill rather than essential.
And
yet recently, I've begun to shift my perspective and
see that enjoyment aligns us with the flow of our own
life force and connects us with our deepest knowing.
It brings people together. It facilitates healing, laughter,
and love. Enjoyment is a gateway into our heart, where
much of the alchemy of transformation happens. Great
spiritual teachers are noted for their delight in each
moment.
For
scientists, enjoyment often propels the curiosity that
leads to major breakthroughs. For those who are committed
to global transformation, taking the time to fully savor
life's delights might seem like a distraction. And yet
without that sense of enjoyment, burnout often looms.
Enjoyment is magnetic and allows us to attract and create
increasingly positive circumstances, which in turn fuel
the fire of transformation.
Many
people do not need a reminder to value enjoyment; it's
built into the bedrock of their very being. But for
those who are, like me, a bit over focused on driving
change, a deeper appreciation for what already is can
be very good medicine.

At
the Frontiers / Top Ten |
Top Ten Noetic Activities to Just Enjoy This Summer,
by Stephen Dinan:
1.
Breath – Notice how, as you breathe in and out, that you are linked to every sentient being in the world through the exchange of invisible gases – a great metaphor for our deeper connection in consciousness.
2. Sun worship – As you
let the sun bathe your body, see it as a metaphor
for the light of higher awareness, penetrating
each cell. Infuse your solar meditation with a
sense of reverence for the way in which the sun
gives us all life.
3. Bodywork – So often
we are focused on growing our consciousness, but
it's also vital to deepen into embodiment. No
practice is more pleasurable than massage!
4. Family – Take some time
to deepen your family's enjoyment of each
other, appreciating the unique gifts that you
all bring to each other
5. Sabbath – How about
taking a day every week this summer to just be,
without any to-do lists, work, travel, or activities,
just empty space to open to spiritual depth?
6. Silence – In a world
of increasing complexity, try spending a day in
silence, just listening to the subtler buzz of
insects, the trilling of birds, and the rich texture
of emptiness.
7. Nature – Summer is a
wonderful time to remember our connection with
other species and reset our rhythms to follow
natural cycles.
8. Vacation at home – We
often feel pressed to go somewhere to relax. Why
not take time off and spend it locally, rediscovering
the restaurants, hikes, and places that you love
in your hometown?
9. Indulge – What if you
let yourself truly savor something that you normally
don't see as "conscious" or "growthful"–
a soap opera, a trip to the mall, a sizzling steak,
a race car competition, a trip to Vegas! In Mary
Oliver's words, "Let the soft animal of your
body love what it loves."
10. IONS conference – Consciousness
is contagious! Treat yourself to a horizon-expanding,
celebratory journey with fellow noeticians in
the beauty of the desert this August.

The Mystique of Intention
June-August 2007
Unraveling
The Secret
by David Rippe
The DVD and book that have ignited the
imagination of millions only scratches the surface
of the history and complexity behind the law of
attraction. It's neither as simple nor as
foolproof as one is led to believe.
The
Power of the Collective
by John Hagelin
A remarkable series of scientifically
credible studies has shown a link between group
meditation and lowered incidents of violence and
crime. And why not? argues Hagelin: If meditation
is good for the individual, it should also be
good for the collective.
Intention
and Reality: The Ghost in the Machine Returns
by Dean Radin
However uncomfortable it makes them,
scientists must reckon with the mysterious role
of intention in seeking to understand the nature
of consciousness. Substantial evidence in favor
of intentional mind-matter interactions should
make this transition a bit easier.
The
Eco-Trauma and Eco-Recovery of Being
by Tina Amorok
Our loss of deep intimacy with the natural
world has had a devastating impact on human flourishing,
perpetuating a vicious cycle of personal violence
and ecological destruction. Restoring a felt sense
of interconnectedness will heal the pain and return
us to our intrinsic state of wholeness.
Participating
with the Universe: An Interview with Brian Swimme
Susan Meeker-Lowry
With passion and playfulness, the renowned
cosmologist acknowledges the precipice that humanity
is teetering on while celebrating the awe of existence
and the ever-present potential for profound transformation.

Connections / Tales of Transformation |

"Learning from the Universe"
by Robert Radford
"I
was graced with all of the North American symbols
of 'success,' but I felt unfulfilled and unsuccessful.
I was not happy in my job, my marriage was in
trouble, and my children, who were now teenagers,
were rebelling at the hypocrisy and idiocy they
perceived in adults. While browsing in a bookstore
one day, I came across the book The Magic
of Findhorn, by Paul Hawken, about a group
of people in a community in Northern Scotland
who were doing things that challenged the boundaries
of scientific thought.... "

Leaving
a Legacy
The
Institute of Noetic Sciences honors late Visionary
Circle member Patricia Hill (1934–2005)
— accomplished pianist, psychiatrist, counselor,
traveler, and animal lover. Her generous bequest
to IONS will serve humanity for years to come
as it seeds essential work at the frontiers of
science, promoting more conscious paradigms and
practices to serve individual and collective transformation.
We are deeply grateful.
Hill
was much appreciated for sharing her gift of music
in her community of Marysville, Washington. Her
father gave her first piano to her at the age
of three and making music was a life-long passion.
Those that knew her acknowledge her laughter,
warm words, and big heart.
After
a sudden onset of cancer and courageous six-month
battle, Hill passed at the age of 71. We honor
Patricia Hill's life and her spirit of generosity
to the Institute with heartfelt gratitude.
If
you would like to learn more about the benefits
of Visionary Circle membership contact Kathleen
Erickson-Freeman at 707-779-8232.

"What
is a demogogue? You can always tell a demogogue
because he is the one pointing a finger at 'dem.'"-
Swami
This month, Swami is on the road so we extend a special offer to you instead of a column:
Get Absurdified by The Swami

"You
know, for years I taught Absurdiveness Training,
and at the end everyone received Absurdification
from the Swami. Well, I have decided to reinstitute
that policy. If you send me a true and unpublished
story about how you became fooly-aware, committed
a random act of comedy that contributed to
someone else's fool-realization, or added
to the laugh force on the planet, I will send
you a playful certificate suitable for framing
that indicates you have been officially Absurdified
by the Swami. Put this in a prominent place.
Then, whenever irregularhilarity strikes,
use it as a reminder that you have had a moment
of fool-realization. And you know what? You
are still the same fool you were then. All
you have to do is realize it, and you are
fooly-realized once again."
So
please E-mail
your stories of "Fool-Realization"
to the Swami or write him on the outernet
c/o Lite Headed Productions, 400 W. Third
St., Suite D-144, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. If
we use your anecdote on our site, you will
receive a playful certificate denoting you
have been Absurdified By the Swami.
