Nine
Gates Mystery School
Opening
the Gates of Mystery
FREE Teleseminar Call
Thursday, Feb. 1st, 6 pm PST,
featuring Mark Saito, Gay Luce, and Michael Eller
For
over twenty years, IONS members have taken profound,
illuminating, and awakening journeys into the mysteries
at the heart of consciousness through the work of our
partner Nine Gates.
Their
school offers doorways to true transformation, as over
1800 graduates can attest. We invite you to a free introductory
call on Thursday Feb. 1st, in which you can dialogue
live with both students and faculty, including Hawaiian
kahuna Mark Saito, founder Gay Luce, and eco-spiritualist
Michael Eller about what makes this one-year initiation
so uniquely powerful.
More
information
"I'd
lived largely in my head, which is true for a lot of
people at Noetics. Mystery School opened up a whole
other dimension for me. It moved me out of my head and
into energy–and opened me again to dimensions of
life and what is real."
–Wink Franklin, Former IONS President

Consciousness
and Healing: Integral Approaches to Mind-Body Medicine
Editors: Marilyn Schlitz, Tina Amorok, Marc
Micozzi
Consciousness and Healing is a collection
of 47 essays on integral medicine, consciousness, and
healing that integrates mainstream medical knowledge
with recent developments in the emerging areas of frontier
sciences and insights from alternative healing perspectives.
It promotes a model of healing in which personal relationships,
emotions, meaning, and belief systems are viewed as
fundamental points of connection between body, mind,
spirit, society, and nature. Integral medicine embraces
the recognition that human beings possess emotional,
spiritual, and relational dimensions that are essential
in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the cultivation
of wellness.
There is no other book on the market that pulls
together so many leaders in this field and presents
material on healing and integral medicine from such
an interdisciplinary and scientific perspective.

Volunteers have been transcribing more than 30 Essential
Shifts interviews. We share two this month:
Julia
Butterfly Hill, environmental activist - "I think one of our biggest
challenges is to look at our way of thinking, and see
if there might be a way to serve ourselves even more
powerfully by ending the myth that there is somewhere
to get to--that there is something else that needs to
be done, that there is all this brokenness that needs
to be fixed, that there is something…. I think part
of our healing has to come from just standing and being
still and claiming a healed world, claiming a healed
humanity, claiming a healed self."
Brian Johnson, founder of Zaadz.com - "Are you doing your practice?
Everyone has something different. For me it's hiking
everyday–and for a lot of people it's their yoga practice
or whatever it is–. It's very, very, very, very important.
I tell [people] that's the first thing you have to do.
That's the most important thing you have in any given
day. You have to do that if we are going to be able
to sustain ourselves–. [I]f I'm going to give myself
to the world I absolutely have to have optimal energy.
That's the starting point."

Shift
in Action / Shift Magazine |
 Our
March issue of Shift magazine will be replaced
with our groundbreaking and comprehensive The 2007 Shift
Report: Evidence of a World Transforming.
This
special report attempts
to chart the transition we believe is underway
from a rigid, mechanistic, and materialistic worldview
to one that is built on a foundation of interconnectedness,
cooperation, and the intersection of science and
spirituality. This 80-page document, highlighted
with sidebars, charts, and quotations, is organized
into four major sections:
Section I – Worldview Breakdown
While acknowledging the benefits that the Newtonian
paradigm has provided, this section makes clear
that the limitations of this worldview are exceeding
our ability to overcome them, leading to potential
worldwide disaster. The impacts of such factors
as trauma, stress, and the fragmentation of consciousness
are addressed.
Section II – Worldview Emergence
The unprecedented intersection of biology, systems
theory, neuroscience, and quantum physics is revealing
the contours of a new worldview, potentially sparking
a new human potential movement. From epigenetics
and the study of resilience to chaos theory and
insights into the “god experience,” researchers
are revealing a world of untapped possibilities,
individual as well as collective.
Section III – Integration / Application
This emerging paradigm is showing up in different
ways in the major institutions of modern life.
This section briefly explores those impacts in
the areas of education, medicine, business, psychology,
and international trends. IONS’ relevant contributions
to these various areas are highlighted.
Section IV – Living Deeply: The IONS Transformation
Research Project
This section describes the methodology and some
of the most compelling findings of this ongoing
ten-year project to map the phenomenon of individual
transformation.
Endnotes / Resources
Question:
Each issue of Shift magazine is currently theme-driven (i.e., in one issue all feature articles explored the subject of “Peace,” while another issue focused on the study of “Subtle Energies”). Should we continue to devote each issue to specific themes or cover several topics in each issue?
Please
respond on our survey!

DEAR
SWAMI
by Swami Beyondananda
"Where
Swami Answers Your Questions - and You Will Question
His Answers"
Dear
Swami:
I'm curious. Have you ever traveled to
India?
Vashti Sari, Campbell, California
Dear Vashti:
Well, as a matter of fact I spent a very eventful
year there when I was a junior in high school.
As you may or may not remember, I grew up in
Oklahoma in a Methodist family. Actually, my
father was a Methodist and my mother a Catholic
-- which makes me a Rhythm Methodist. Anyway,
as a child I would spontaneously go into yoga
poses, and by the time I was in Boy Scouts I
could tie myself into twelve different knots.
I was attracted to all things Indian, but my
parents didn't quite get it. For two years,
they apprenticed me to the most evolved being
in Oklahoma, the great Native American shaman,
Broken Wind. He taught me a technique called
“gastral projection,” but that's
another story.
Anyway,
I persisted with my deep studies of yoga until
I hit a serious impasse. I was practicing my
breathing exercises -- probably overdoing it
-- when I had an unfortunate accident. My kundalini
exploded in a crowded supermarket. Fortunately,
no one else was injured but it left me with
a permanent East Indian accent. By that time,
my parents decided that I must have been switched
before birth, and gave me permission to spend
my junior year attending high school in India
as part of their Omward Bound program.
I have cherished memories of the year I spent
at Govinda High School. I still remember our
school chant at soccer games -- “Go Govinda,
Govinda Go, Govinda Game Govinda!” --
and my after school job as a busboy at the world
famous New Delhi Deli, run by the great spiritual
teacher Yeshivananda and his consort, Lakshmir.
To them I owe the greatest debt of gratitude,
for they sent me to establish the first Ganesh's
Knishes outlet in the Punjab. It was there that
I learned the language of word play that I still
use today, Punjabber.

Connections / Monthly Intention |
|
February
Intention:
The
first of every month at noon (US Pacific), we
encourage you to take a quiet moment to link your
intention with people around the world. This month,
our intention is to affirm the global unity of
humanity. Together, we affirm that we all come
from branches of the same ancient tree and that
we are fellow citizens of the same small blue
planet. We are all linked and connected.
February
Action:
This month, we encourage you
to choose one action that helps you feel a sense
of intimate connection with someone in another
country.
February
Question for Reflection:
If you lived with
a complete awareness of how your life choices and
consciousness affect those on the opposite side
of the planet, what changes might you make in your
lifestyle?
This month's member intention was emailed to us
from Kate Riser:
"My intention is to know, feel
and believe that every word and every action from
me affects my day, my life, my inner and outer
circle of influence and our global planet. I want
to be the change I wish to see and to remind myself
every day to love and honor my authentic self
no matter what."
If
you'd like to offer an intention for next month,
please send it here.
