Take
a voyage to extraordinary realms of consciousness!
The Monroe Institute is offering its legendary Gateway
Voyage® at the IONS campus June 3-9, 2006.
Now
in its 33rd year, the Gateway Voyage is a six-day intensive
program dedicated to the development and exploration
of human consciousness using the scientifically based
and clinically proven audio-guidance technology known
as Hemi-Sync®. This patented technology, supported
by more than 40 years of research, can help individuals
experience exception realms of consciousness.
Participants
share adventures throughout their program while developing
close bonds and lasting friendships. Although actual
experiences vary form person to person, most participants
consider the Gateway Voyage to be one of their most
meaningful and life-changing experiences.
"For
me, the Monroe Gateway Voyage program was a long-awaited
journey that helped me peel back several layers of the
veils of consciousness and provided tools for continuing
the work in my daily life."

Dinan /
The
unifying theme for this month's iShift is peace.
Given our long history of warfare, humankind faces a
real challenge to move beyond using violence to resolve
conflicts. To create a truly sustainable civilization,
we will need to meet this challenge and establish a
new baseline for behavior that is grounded in principles
of peace. The challenge is at once psychological, political,
spiritual, economic, and scientific. To endure, the
shift to peace will require a transformation of human
consciousness.
Recently,
members of IONS have become increasingly motivated to
apply consciousness principles and practices to the
creation of peace. The burgeoning interest is reflected
in a new documentary that is beginning production called
The Science of Peace, for which IONS will serve
a scientific advisory role. Many members have become
involved in the Peace Alliance's campaign for
a US Department of Peace. And still others are working
on specialized and innovative projects such as Pathways
to Peace.
The
good news is that, despite dire headlines and an uptick
in global terror, the number of armed conflicts globally
has been in steady decline - peace is gradually winning
(see report).
If we project these trends forward, we may well reach
a historically unprecedented moment in which we have
a global baseline of peace, especially if enough of
us align our intentions and actions with that vision
and back it up with sound science and savvy politics.

This
month, we feature an article from the latest Shift
that chronicles how consciousness insights are permeating
a new generation of movies:
"Movies
on a Mission,"
by Matthew Gilbert
"A
group of idealists risk their lives to protect an ancient
scroll with clues to our evolutionary destiny. An old
wizard guides his young student toward deep personal
transformation. A young man loses all of his associative
memory and must start from scratch to figure out who
he is - or was. What do these storylines have in common?
And what makes them different from generations of cinematic
efforts to educate, inspire, and move us in some way?
In the last several years, an unprecedented number of
new movies have aspired to be more than just entertainment."

in Action / Featured Channel |

Consciousness and Healing
The Consciousness and Healing channel features content
that calls health professionals and patients alike
to help craft a new, more fitting way of practicing
medicine in light of the major crisis in the practice
and delivery of healthcare in the United States.
We offer an integral perspective, the view that
the scientific quest is incomplete without data
from many domains of inquiry, and that human transcendence
can occur in the face of illness and disease. In
the last year, we've hosted teleseminars with Larry
Dossey, Candace Pert, Stanley Krippner, Elliot Dacher,
Bridget Duffy, Penny Livingston, and John Astin.
Partners can now download all of these teleseminars
from our Consciousness and Healing home page. Coming
this fall: Janet Quinn, Mitch Krucoff, and Joan
Borysenko.

"A
Peaceful Warrior-ette"
IONS Circle member Julianne Fitzgerald
"When
Julianne Fitzgerald arrives in a group you can
feel it - visionary possibilities and enthusiasm
follow in her wake. Her passion to make bold dreams
happen is palpable and infectious. Mothering nine
kids provided her a bootcamp in organizing unruly
activities, which has grown her into a natural
leader. Recently, she has turned her focus towards
the creation of a Department of Peace, for which
she serves as the Utah Campaign Coordinator. Creating
a DOP also feels very aligned with her deep connection
to IONS."

Swami
Beyondananda Answers Your Questions - and You Will
Question His Answers
Dear
Swami:
How do we shift our world from war to peace?
Aretha Flowers, Covington KY
Dear Aretha:
I
have been asked many, many times if there will
there ever be peace on earth, and I have great
news. There will indeed be peace on earth. Now
the trick is making sure we humans are around
to enjoy it. Will we achieve critical mass before
we reach critical massacre? That is the critical
question.
The first step is owning our own part, which
I call the peace-meal approach to peace. Each
of us is responsible for a small piece of the
peace and we build peace, peace by peace, through
our own choices. You are probably familiar with
the story of the Native American grandfather
who tells his grandson that there are two wolves
fighting inside all of us: the wolf of fear
and anger, and the wolf of love and peace.
"Which
one will win?" asks the young boy.
"Whichever
one we feed," replies the grandfather.
And it's hard to feed the wolf of peace
when you have "one nation, under guard."
Secondly, we must enroll all of the world's
religious and spiritual leaders who see that
indeed we are all in this together to stand
together as a force for peace and sanity. Call
me a hopeless optimystic, but I believe you
CAN teach an old dogma new tricks. As a matter
of fact, I recently received a transmission
from the ascended guru of rock n' roll,
Baba Oom Mow Mow, whose mission is help the
world change its tune by rewriting the oldies.
I present his latest offering, to the tune of
"Abraham, Martin and John:"
Anybody
here seen my old friend Moses
Can you tell me where he's gone
They're breaking his tablets
Forgettin' we're all one
He's needed in old Lebanon
Anybody
here seen my old friend Jesus
Can you tell me where he's gone
Saved lots of people
But the savin' ain't quite done
It's needed in old Lebanon
Didn't
you love the things that they stood for?
Why do we stand for less from you and me?
We hold the key
To someday soon, well now is that one day
Anybody
here seen my old friend Muhammad?
Can you tell me where he's gone
He's saying "peace to all people"
Alaikam salaam
It's needed in old Lebanon

Connections / Monthly Intention |
|
September
Intention:
The
first of every month at noon (US Pacific), we
encourage you to take a quiet moment to link your
intention with people around the world. This month,
our intention is in support of peace. Together,
we affirm that we are creating a network of consciousness
that is helping to shift our planet from a sense
of separation and war to a sense of deep connection
and peace.
September
Action:
This month, we encourage you
to take a violent conflict in the world and visualize
first one side, then the other, in their highest
and best light. Send them love and healing intention,
invoking a resolution of the violent conflict
in a way that aligns with the highest and best
interests of both sides.
September
Question for Reflection:
If you knew that every single
thought ripples out to affect others, how might
you think differently?
This month's member intention comes to us from Rev.
Roxana Muise, author of forthcoming Tao of Hope
(Jan 07):
"Wherever I experience a disagreement,
I will dig into the context of that disagreement
and find a place, however small, where there is
agreement. At that point, I can focus my attention
on building and expanding that agreement until
it dwarfs the disagreement, and becomes the most
important part of the interaction."
If
you'd like to offer an intention for next month,
please send it here.
