At the Frontiers / Science and Research

IONS often receives excellent submissions that don't fit the themes or needs of particular magazines. This month, we share an article from a former IONS editor, who reflects on his encounter with a pod of dolphins, leading to philosophical reflections on the possibility of true interspecies communication:

"Cosmos and Communion," excerpted from Radical Knowing (buy) by Christian DeQuincey

"When others in our group reported, for example, that dolphins have 'pod consciousness' - that their primary locus of identity is the pod and only secondarily the individual dolphin - and, further, that members of our group had learned this from messages the dolphins themselves had communicated, how was I to take it? How was I to remain intellectually honest without falling prey to postconquest consciousness? My dilemma was how to balance my philosopher's mind with the process of opening up my heart, trusting in my feelings and intuition."

Quest for Global Healing

The Quest for Global Healing channel explores how to deal with wounds created by conflict, collective trauma and large-scale oppression. We highlight areas of collective experience which remain unresolved, neglected, and repressed within the psyche of groups and even nations. In the last year, we've hosted teleseminars with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Jean Houston, Frances Moore Lappe, Azim Khamisa, Andrew Cohen, Kaethe Weingarten, Robin Casarjian, and Ervin Laszlo. Partners can now download all of these teleseminars from our Quest for Global Healing home page.

Personal Connections / Tales of Transformation

"On the Rocks"
By Jane Hughes Gignoux

Excerpt: "As it turned out, I had to let go of everyone and everything I was trying to save in order to take care of myself. I had been neglecting, and denying my own needs at my peril. It took me a while to get the message, even though it seems crystal clear in hindsight: living an unhealthy spiritual life has catastrophic consequences. "

Personal Connections / Donor Spotlight

Mundo Pequeno (Small World), by Beth Cushman

" I could go nearly 4,000 miles across the globe with my little family and walk into someone's living room who I have never met and there he would be..., connecting us with warm, loving, like-minded friends who knew him and treasure what he believed in most.”

Swami Beyondananda Answers Your Questions - and You Will Question His Answers

Dear Swami:
Is it possible to shift the consciousness of a whole country? Are there any examples in history?
Anna Stezia, Portland OR

Dear Anna:

Well, from what I understand the shift really hit the fan in Atlantis a few millennia back. Of course, that example is a little over the top, not to mention under the bottom. A little closer to here and now, it happened in America in 1776, and being a certain kind of mystic - an optimystic - I say it can happen again. Only this time, we won't need a revolution. It will take an evolution where we the people wake up to realize that we are the leaders we've been waiting for. Imagine ... the unarmed forces overgrowing the current system from the grassroots up, a nonviolent evolution where only a few big shots are fired. And here's the good news: people are already starting to wake up and wise up, so the "up-wising" has begun!

Personal Connections / Monthly Intention

August Intention:
The first of every month at noon (US Pacific), we encourage you take a quiet moment to link your intention with people around the world. This month, our intention is in support of abundance. Together, we affirm that we are each part of activities that are deeply needed on this planet and that each will receive the resources required to manifest in their rightful way. We ask that this abundance be sustainable and in alignment with the needs of the rest of the planet.

August Action:
Try taking one specific action in support of the monthly intention that represents your commitment to shifting towards thinking more abundantly. In what area of your life can you visualize the flow of exactly the resources you need to manifest your most beautiful vision?

August Question for Reflection:

If you believed that you will receive whatever you need to manifest your dreams, how might that change how you live your daily life?

IONS Member Intention, from Rev. Larry James Stephens:

"My Intention is to allow for, not just tolerate, all other intentions...especially those I don't agree with. I'm knowing that what I resist, persists, and I can not transform that which I don't acknowledge. By choosing demonstration over judgment, and cooperation over competition, I help insure there will always be more than enough love and abundance in the world."

If you'd like to offer an intention for next month, please send it here.
